Welcome: what the Quiz Builder does
Welcome. This week you will turn quiz questions you have written, or questions an AI tool has drafted, into a file you can import straight into Canvas.
The Quiz Builder is a free tool on this site. You paste or write questions, check them, and download a file for Canvas New Quizzes or for an item bank. It all runs in your browser, so nothing you type is sent to the site. Your draft is kept in your browser, so it is still there if you come back.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this week you will be able to
- Write questions in the format the Builder reads.
- Choose the right question type for what you want to ask.
- Check questions, fix problems and add feedback.
- Download a file and import it into a Canvas New Quiz or item bank.
- Keep your questions in an item bank so you can reuse them.
How the week works
There are five short days of about 20 to 30 minutes each. Finishing a day earns a skill badge, and finishing the whole week earns a course badge you can share.
- Day 1: get ready and think about your own quizzes.
- Day 2: write questions the Builder can read.
- Day 3: check, fix and get help from an AI tool.
- Day 4: get your file, import it into Canvas and build a real quiz, then a short quiz of your own to check the week.
- Day 5: item banks, reuse and your next step.
You will need the Quiz Builder open in another tab and a Canvas course where you can create a New Quiz. A sandbox is ideal.
Next, a few minutes to think about how you write quizzes now.
